Our aim is to provide customer focused quality service to our customers and residents.

As part of our team you will be valued for your contribution in providing quality care and services to our community.

Types of volunteering opportunities include:

Historical and Cultural Precinct

We have four precinct venues which include the Burke Museum, Ned Kelly Vault, Court House and Telegraph Station. Our volunteers perform a variety of interesting duties the most important of which is customer service to the visitors of Beechworth. Council is seeking motivated and reliable people with excellent communication and customer service skills to join the Historic Precinct's expanding team of volunteers. These positions would be especially suitable for applicants who have or wish to gain experience in the museum or tourism Industry. It is desirable that the potential applicants have experience in customer service and a keen interest in local history or museum practice. Induction and training will be offered to the successful volunteers.

Chiltern Athenaeum

The Chiltern Athenaeum is currently seeking volunteers to perform a number of duties. Please email them directly to find out more information.

Visitor Information Centres (VIC)

At the Beechworth, Chiltern and Yackandandah Visitor Information Centres (VIC) volunteers help visitors learn about our wonderful area, attractions and activities. Full training is provided with updates, outings and plenty of local knowledge. To find out more and receive an application form, contact the Visitor Information Centres directly.

Event organising

Larger events with event committees rely on volunteers to help their event run smoothly for the community to enjoy. Many are not-for-profit and require an enormous amount of hours to organise and carry out.

  • Golden Horseshoes Festival requires volunteers for site control, set-up and pack down, festival kiosk, green team, stalls team, children’s zone, signage, marketing and media, and sponsorship.
  • Yackandandah Folk Festival requires volunteer committee members and festival weekend volunteers in areas such as logistics, venue management, MCs, venue control, green team, performer hospitality, The Shed, car parking, social media and children’s activities.

Are you a volunteer run event committee looking for more volunteers? Contact us to add your information to this page.

Youth Services

Our Youth Services team facilitates a Shire-wide driving mentor program called L2P. The program matches volunteer driving mentors with young people who experience barriers accessing a supervising driver, a vehicle, or both, to help them achieve the 120 hours driving experience required to apply for their probationary licence.

When volunteering for the program, all mentors need to abide by the Victorian Child Safe Standards and hold a current Working with Children Check.

Library Services

Our Library Services are provided across four locations in the Shire. Volunteers assist our librarians with many tasks including book covering, book sales and the Friends of the Library Group. To volunteer at one of our libraries (Beehworth, Chiltern, Rutherglen or Yackandandah) please contact the libraries directly.
