The much-anticipated launch of the Beechworth Courthouse Kelly Trials exhibition has been delayed due to the discovery of asbestos in the historic building’s ceiling cavity.
A small piece of hazardous material was found last week, covered by insulation, and Council is currently following all necessary protocols.
Acting CEO, Greg Pinkerton says that while this is a disappointing development for the opening, work on old buildings regularly throws up surprises and the main priority is staff and contractor safety.
“We’re working to determine a new launch date, as the remediation works are dependent on the testing currently underway and contractor availability.”
A further update will be provided when a revised date can be identified.
