Community groups to benefit from Council grants

More than 50 community organisations across the Shire will share in more than $130,000 awarded through three Council grant streams.
The Event Grants program, with a funding pool of $60,000 will be distributed among 21 applicants, to support the running of community events throughout the Shire. These range from music events and festivals, agricultural shows, fun runs, family fun days, Christmas lunches and the new Off-Grid Living Festival.
A further $50,000 will be shared among 25 organisations which applied for a community grant. The funding will be used for a range of projects, including maintenance at local sporting clubs, the purchase of equipment, paving and landscaping, coaching, toy libraries and shade structures.
The third funding stream, designed to support sustainability projects will see $20,000 shared among five applicants. The Community Sustainability Grants funding assists local groups implement and build capacity for renewable energy, energy efficiency, biodiversity and climate change related projects.
Mayor, Sophie Price says these programs not only provide much needed financial support, they also recognise the wonderful work of a huge range of organisations from across the Shire, predominately run by hard working volunteers.
“The quantity and diversity of this year’s applicants really show how our Shire is evolving and growing and we’re so pleased to be able to support them through this program.”
