Hello everyone,
I want to begin today’s message by expressing our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of those tragically killed at Daylesford on Sunday Night. Daylesford, like any of our towns, is a close-knit community which will be hurting and will take some time to recover. To our friends and colleagues at Hepburn Shire, we are thinking of you all at this difficult time.
As we head into our first real burst of hot weather tomorrow, it’s a timely reminder that this time of the year can be very unpredictable. Thankfully the thunderstorms Wednesday night did not result in widespread damage, but I’m sure caused many to have a sleepless night. There was no escaping the loud claps of thunder and heavy rain. It’s almost 12 months since we were battered by storms and as we know the clean-up and the repairs are ongoing. We are all very much hoping that we can get through spring without a repeat. This weekend’s hot weather forecast coincides with the opening of our five swimming pools. I’m sure there’ll be plenty keen to take a dip and escape the heat. Also this weekend, Beechworth celebrates its unique history with its first Heritage Festival kicking off today. There’s a huge program on offer including live performances, interactive exhibits and a celebration of cultures. I have no doubt this will be a huge success and I congratulate the festival organisers for their work in bringing this festival to Beechworth. Tomorrow also marks Remembrance Day, and as we stand together at 11am to commemorate those who died fighting for our country, we reflect with great gratitude, the life they sacrificed for the lives we have today. Lest we forget. Regards Cr Sophie Price
