Mayor's Message 13 December 2024

Hi everyone,

On Tuesday night the new Council met for the final meeting of 2024. While not a huge agenda, it was good to get down to business and for our new Councillors to become more familiar with the Council meeting process.

Among the agenda items was a late report on the Albury Wodonga Hospital with a recommendation that Council reaffirm its position to continue advocating for a fully-funded new single site hospital.

This is arguably one of the most important issues facing the whole of North East Victoria and Southern New South Wales, and with the majority of Councils in the Albury-Wodonga hospital catchment now aligned, we have a very strong position to take to the State and Federal Governments.

Council was unanimous in its support for the recommendations tabled, and we will now continue the fight for our communities to get the health services they deserve, not just for now but for generations to come.

As you will see in the image below, all Councillors donned orange T-Shirts for this meeting. Orange is the global campaign colour of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence, and Indigo Shire Council is a strong supporter and participant.

While Council now won’t meet officially until February 2025, there’ll be plenty going on behind the scenes as we prepare for the year ahead.

For the first few months of the new year, we will be deep into developing our new four-year Council Plan as well as our draft 2025/26 budget.

With only one week remaining on the current Council Plan engagement, I strongly encourage anyone who is yet to participate to do so before the survey closes on 20 December. This really is one of the most important opportunities for all community members to contribute and let us know your priorities.

Take care.
Sophie Price.
