Mayor's Message 13 September 2024

Hello everyone,

This will be my last Mayor’s Message as a member of the current Indigo Shire Council. From midday Tuesday 17 September until 6pm on Saturday 26 October, all Victorian local councils will be in the Election Period.

During this period, also known as caretaker, Councils cannot undertake any activities that promote achievements, make any major decisions, or use any Council resources that may influence voting.

However, it will be business as usual in terms of service delivery and nothing will change in that regard. The CEO will continue to run the day to day business of the Council and all employees will go about their jobs as normal.

It’s been an extraordinary four years for all of us and when I look back to 2020 when we were first elected, we were in the midst of a world-wide pandemic. Most our staff were working from home, Councillors could only meet via zoom and Council meetings were also held on-line.

During the term, we had several changes in the Chamber, with Jenny O’Connor resigning in February 2022 and being replaced by Councillor Emmerick Teissl and in July 2023, Larry Goldsworthy stood down and was replaced by Councillor Sue Gold.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all Councillors, past and present, for their passion and commitment to Indigo Shire and for always doing what they consider is in the best interest of the community. It can be tricky and not all decisions are popular, but we do what we think is best and also what is permitted within state legislation.

To all those who’ve registered to stand for Council, I wish you well in your campaigning.

Thank you also to you, our community, for the role you’ve played in helping shape decisions and outcomes through participating in our many engagement opportunities, being part of a community reference group or advisory committee, or simply by taking an interest in the issues that matter.

Take care and stay safe.

Cr Sophie Price.
