Mayor's Message 15 September, 2023
Hello everyone,
With glorious weather forecast for the weekend, and grand finals being played out in a number of sporting codes, it’s shaping up to be a huge weekend across the Shire.
One of the biggest turn-outs will be at Sandy Creek for the Tallangatta District Football League and Tallangatta District Netball Association Grand Finals.
Chiltern and Kiewa Sandy Creek will go head to head in the seniors match while the reserves grand final will be between Chiltern and Yackandandah. The A-Grade netball will be fought out between Yackandandah and Kiewa Sandy Creek.
It’s great to see so many of our local teams in the Grand Final and I strongly encourage everyone to get behind them and good luck to all.
While I appreciate not everyone is interested in football or netball, these sports along with so many others played across the Shire are so important to wellbeing, sense of community and pride.
As a Council, we do what we can to support all sporting clubs and to ensure that facilities and infrastructure that enable and encourage participation are as good as they can be. We’ve got an impressive track record in securing grant funding for facility upgrades and you only need to visit our current projects and works page to see what’s planned this year.
We also seek grant funding for the development of master plans, which are often needed to inform future upgrades and improvements. We’ve been fortunate to secure $30,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s 2021/22 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund Planning stream to develop master plans for Coulston Park at Kiewa-Tangambalanga, Rutherglen’s Barkly Park, Yackandandah Sports Park and the Allans Flat Waterhole. Council has contributed $40,000.
The first draft master plan has been developed for Coulston Park in consultation with user groups, sporting bodies and other key stakeholders. The document is now available for viewing and we’re encouraging community feedback on the ideas and recommendations. Visit ENGAGED INDIGO to read more about how you can have your say. There’ll also be a drop-in session and hard copies made available.
Enjoy the weather and all the grand final action and go Chiltern.
Sophie Price.
