Hello everyone,
I want to open today’s Mayor’s Message by extending my deepest condolences to all those impacted by the horrific events at Bondi last Saturday.
To the family and friends of the victims, first responders, witnesses and bystanders, we are so deeply saddened by this unspeakable tragedy and while we may be geographically far away, our thoughts are with each and every one of you.
On Tuesday night, Council will meet for its April Council Meeting, which you are welcome to attend in person or watch via live stream from 6.30pm.
We have a number of agenda items which I’m sure will be of interest to many residents, including the Draft Revenue and Rating Strategy, Draft Financial Hardship Policy and Draft Public Art Policy. If endorsed by Council, these will all be placed on public exhibition to allow for further community input.
Council will also consider a recommendation to award a contract for the construction of a new bridge on Indigo Creek Road. We recently received much needed Federal Government grant funding of $1.24M for a new bridge, after the existing culverts failed in the October 2022 storm events. Council will also contribute to the cost of the new bridge and associated works with money set aside in next year’s budget.
The awarding of this contract will be a huge relief for local residents, businesses and regional transport companies which have been impacted by the partial closure of the road for the past 18 months. We recognise the inconvenience, and we thank the community for its patience and also the Federal Government for making the funds available to enable this project to go ahead.
The CEO will have more to say below about transportation across the Shire and the opportunity for residents to contribute to a new Transportation Plan which is now open for community feedback.
Take care and enjoy your weekend.
Cr Sophie Price.
