Mayor's Message 2 February 2024
Hello everyone,
Welcome to the first edition of YOUR INDIGO for 2024.
This year is the final of this current Council term and in September we will enter what’s called caretaker period, ahead of local government elections in October.
Anyone considering standing for Council can find information on the Local Government Victoria website and we will share any further updates as they become available.
In the meantime, we’ve got a very busy eight months ahead, including developing and adopting a new budget and finalising the remaining actions in our Council Plan 2021-2025.
Thank you to those who contributed to the pre-budget engagement, sharing your priorities and ideas for your community. While fewer people participated in the engagement compared with previous years, we heard a consistent message and that is to focus our spending on the basics; roads, drains, footpaths and community facilities.
I want to reassure you that we are listening, and our operations crew is working across the Shire building new footpaths, patching and resealing roads, installing new culverts and addressing drainage issues.
While we know how important these works are, we must balance this with initiatives that address health and wellbeing, support the growth of our communities and improve our liveability. We have a huge number of projects underway and I encourage you to learn more about these and what’s happening in your area of the Shire by visiting our projects and works page.
In closing, I had the great pleasure of officiating at a citizenship ceremony on Monday, where we welcomed three new Australian Citizens to our Shire, pictured below. It’s always an honour to share this experience with residents who’ve made the commitment to call Australia home.
Take care.
