Hello everyone,
Yesterday I attended Anzac Day services at Chiltern and Barnawartha and it was heart warming to see so many people in attendance, especially local children.
I believe 25 April is one of the most important dates on the National calendar and regardless of where you are, it’s a day to stop and reflect on the sacrifice of everyone who has served our country in war, and to recognise all current and former members of our Defence Force.
It’s always a sombre occasion, and it's almost impossible not to be overcome with emotion at the playing of the Last Post.
Lest We forget.
On Tuesday, Council held its April Council meeting and while not a huge agenda, there were several important items discussed including the draft Rating and Revenue Strategy and Financial Hardship Policy. These documents are now on public exhibition and community members are invited to make a submission. You can view the documents on ENGAGED INDIGO.
Both the updated strategy and policy were developed with input from a community working group as well as the findings from a community survey. We thank all individuals involved for their time and efforts in providing input.
Also on exhibition in our first ever draft Public Art Policy. This policy will help guide us in the planning, creating, commissioning and maintenance of public art throughout the Shire. I encourage all community members to review the draft documents and if compelled, to make a submission.
Another great milestone was the awarding of a major contract for the construction of a new bridge on Indigo Creek Road. We were fortunate to receive Federal Government funding to enable this work to go ahead and I’m sure Indigo Valley locals will be very excited at this news. You can read more about this further in YOUR INDIGO.
With another sunny weekend forecast it’s a great time of year to take in the spectacular autumn display of our deciduous trees which are ablaze with colour and if you’re feeling energetic on Sunday, why not head to Huon Reserve and take part in the annual Milk Run. You can find details here.
Take care and stay safe.
Cr Sophie Price.
