Mayor's Message 4 August, 2023
Hello everyone,
On Monday, I had the great pleasure of meeting many of our local community members, including a number of young people at the new Chiltern Community Hub.
While not an ‘official’ opening, that will happen in the coming weeks, I did get to open the door to this wonderful new community centre.
We were extremely fortunate to have received $2.5M in state government funding and a further $1.1M from the Federal Government to build this new centre, with Council contributing $130,000.
This beautiful facility not only offers integrated Council services, including a much needed new library, customer service and maternal and child health services, it provides a community connection point for gathering with friends and family.
We look forward to welcoming the kindergarten and child care centre to the hub in the coming months.
I want to congratulate everyone who has contributed to this project, from those involved in the initial community engagement to the staff, consultants and builders who brought the vision for such a community space to life.
If you haven’t had the chance to drop in for a visit, I encourage you to do so and say hello to the staff.
There’s also been plenty of community discussion this week about another opening and that’s the Beechworth Wodonga Road. Regional Roads Victoria has installed a temporary Bailey Bridge at the site of the damaged culvert over Rising Sun Creek. Let’s hope the culvert repairs can be completed by late October as suggested.
We appreciate that its been a long delay in re-opening the bridge and we will continue to liaise closely with RRV as the culvert works get underway and share with you any new information that is made available to us.
Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
Sophie
