Mayor's Message 6 September, 2024
Hello everyone,
This week, we held the final of four drop-in sessions to review Council’s Community Vision.
The session at Yackandandah attracted a small but engaged number of community members and it was great to be able to chat informally and hear about what matters most to residents.
With engagement on this now paused, the next steps are to review the feedback and refresh our Community Vision document, before bringing it back to you in the new year for further feedback.
The need for all councils to have a community vision with at least a 10-year outlook is prescribed in the Local Government Act 2020. We adopted our vision document in 2021 and this current engagement was designed as a check-in with community to see whether or not it remains relevant and aligned with your aspirations for Indigo’s future.
The Community Vision sets the scene for the future growth and development of the Shire. It also provides the framework for the next four-year Council Plan. When developing the Council Plan, Councillors need to ensure that what they do over the next Council term brings them closer to achieving your aspirations for the Shire.
Work on developing the new Council Plan will begin in earnest following the council elections and caretaker period. So, from late October through to Christmas Council will be seeking your input into the plan. There’ll be a range of opportunities for online and in-person engagement, as well as an incentive to encourage as many people as possible to contribute.
While we are in caretaker mode, from midday 17 September to 6pm on 26 October, you’ll notice a few changes in our communications. For example, YOUR INDIGO will not feature the Mayor’s Message and the content will be somewhat sanitized to not include any promotion of Council achievements or mention of Councillors. Any comments posted to our Facebook and other social media profiles will be hidden from the public. These rules are set by State Law, not by Council and adherence to them is critical.
As always, if you need to contact Council, it will be business as usual and you can email, phone or submit a request via our Customer Experience Team.
Take care and stay safe.
Cr Sophie Price.
