Indigo Shire will this week launch a new, high visibility marketing campaign to encourage visitors to return to the region.

But rather than see a repeat of the Queen’s Birthday long-weekend where towns were inundated, the new campaign has a very specific focus on encouraging visitors to explore the region’s breathtaking natural assets and to be COVID-safe at all times.

Mayor Jenny O’Connor says the survival of many operators is reliant on a robust tourism trade, but the health and safety of the community must come first.

“We think this is a terrific way to get people back into our region, without causing fear and anxiety in our community by having too many people in close proximity, ignoring social distancing.”

“Our region is absolutely stunning. We have amazing nature based walking experiences close to our towns, spectacular vistas and so much more for day trippers and those that want to stay a night or two,” Cr O’Connor said.

She said the COVID-safe, COVID-kind messaging over the long weekend was well received and this campaign will build on that, with all campaign collateral including COVID-safe travel advice.

Large billboards will carry stunning images of the shire, a strong visit safely message and showcase Indigo’s Short Walks experiences. Visit shortwalks.com.au to find out more.

The campaign will be launched later this week in Melbourne.

“We are extremely supportive of our local businesses and we want to do all we can to help them recover from what has been a horrendous 2020, but we also want to make sure that our community remains free from Coronavirus and we think this is a great initiative to achieve that balance,” Cr O’Connor said.
