The Beechworth Historic Courthouse Kelly Trials Project is moving to an exciting new phase with the appointment of two new contractors. Convergence Design Australia has been appointed project curator and NBRS is undertaking a Heritage Conservation Review.
Convergence brings significant museum exhibition experience to the project, including delivery of the $100 million Sir John Monash centre in Villers Brettoneux in France. The company is currently working on the interpretation plan (research and information/story development) for the new experience. Convergence is also engaged on the Glenrowan Siege Site Viewing Tower project, so has significant local and Kelly experience.
NBRS is an architectural design firm with heritage expertise. Its role is to assess the heritage requirements of the courthouse as a foundation for the new experience, ensuring that the building’s fabric and environment will be protected throughout the project and ongoing as visitation increases in the future.
The project budget of $1M has not changed and the current work builds on the research, consultation and storyline development undertaken in 2021.
To enable this important work to be delivered the new launch date for the experience is July 2023.
This project is jointly funded by Indigo Shire and the Victorian State Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund, and is intended to increase cultural heritage tourism to the region.
