GRAVELISTA, the second of two Trek UCI (Union Cycliste International) Gravel World Series races in Australia, is coming to Beechworth.

Set for Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September, the event will be a celebration of some of the finest gravel riding in the country and will encompass a weekend of activity and celebration around cycle racing with an event village, expo, fine food and drink and activities for supporters as well as riders.

The UCI is the world governing body for sports cycling and oversees international competitive cycling events and Indigo Shire Council Tourism Manager Susannah Doyle says securing the event is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Beechworth and its surrounds.

“The riding options around Beechworth are perfectly suited to a UCI-level event and the visitor experience and amenities Beechworth has on offer, as well as the surrounding region, ensures that this event will be a world-class experience.” Ms Doyle says.

“Additionally, this event will not only highlight Beechworth as ‘gravel central’ in North East Victoria, but it will also put the spotlight on other destinations within the Shire such as Chiltern and Rutherglen where there are extensive existing gravel trails on offer.” Ms Doyle said.

Bess Nolan-Cook, CEO of Tourism North East says, “Victoria’s High Country is well known as Australia’s premier cycling destination and we are thrilled to play host to the internationally recognised, GRAVELISTA. We expect the event to attract significant participation and visitors will be immersed in an unforgettable weekend of epic cycling, world-class produce and live entertainment in the historic and picturesque town of Beechworth.”
