The Chiltern Community Hub, heritage, footpaths and road safety improvements are just some of the initiatives to be funded across Indigo Shire thanks to a significant funding boost from the Federal Government’s third round of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure grant program.
Indigo Shire Council received over $2M through the program and following endorsement by Council at Tuesday’s meeting, new and existing projects in Beechworth, Kiewa, Barnawartha, Yackandandah, Chiltern and Rutherglen will receive a cash injection.
The Chiltern Community Hub project was allocated a $1.1M contribution to allow for increasing construction costs, which will enable the completion of the project. A tender for construction of this important community asset is expected to be awarded in the coming weeks.
Upon completion, the hub will provide increased childcare capacity, a new maternal and child health space, community meeting rooms and a new library.
The federal grant program provides funding to support jobs, businesses and the resilience of local economies.
The full list of projects are listed below and are set to be completed by 31 December 2022.
