Speed limit changes approved for Indigo Shire

Motorists across Indigo Shire will be required to slow down following the Department of Transport and Planning’s approval of Council’s application to reduce speed limits on a number of Council managed roads.

The speed limit changes, set to be in place by mid to late 2023, have been approved following safety concerns raised by community members and supporting reports from the Department of Transport and Victoria Police.

Mayor, Sophie Price has welcomed the news, saying that the safety of all road users is Council’s number one priority.

“Whether you’re a motorist, cyclist or pedestrian, these speed reductions are being introduced to keep everyone safe.”

Indigo Shire Council CEO Trevor Ierino echoed Cr Price’s comments stating that while the process has been lengthy, it is worthwhile.

“We know in particular, that the Beechworth community has been keen for the introduction of these changes for some time now, so we’re pleased to have reached a resolution. As a part of this work, we’ve also introducing reduced speed limits in other parts of the Shire, so the overall result is now a safer road network for the entire Shire.”

The speed limit changes are as follows:
