Have your say on the draft Beechworth Railway Precinct Masterplan

In 2022, Tourism North East (TNE) secured $8.5 million in funding from the Victorian State Government to support the implementation of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail Enhancements project across three local government areas - Alpine Shire, Indigo Shire, and the Rural City of Wangaratta.

As a popular location along the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail, the Beechworth Railway Precinct has been selected as a location for enhancements including functional landscaping, public amenity and safety improvements.

Ben Gilbert, of Agency of Sculpture and a Yackandandah-based artist, has been appointed to design the enhancements within the railway precinct. As such, TNE, in partnership with Council, is seeking input from the community to inform the creative development and final design for the space.

To help guide this process, a draft masterplan has been developed. You can view the draft plan, and provide your feedback via a short survey, on the TNE website.

Background

Developed in 2016, the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail Enhancements Project looks to effectively establish the region’s rail trail network as an authentic, iconic tourism product, central to delivering strong outcomes for the local visitor economy including increased visitation and yield.

The M2M Rail Trail Enhancements Project will see the introduction of a series of world-class installations, experiences and infrastructure improvements designed to increase visitation by offering one of a kind, “must-see” moments that are engaging, shareable and repeatable.
