The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) has commenced preparation for a planned fuel reduction burn sometime in the next month around the Back Creek - Nine Acre Track area.
The planned burn is subject to favourable weather conditions and it is likely the notice period will be short.
Please be aware of the changed conditions in the preparation phase and during the burn:
Indigo Epic detours during the burn preparation period
The following Indigo Epic tracks will be re-routed:
- Yack Tracks Purple Loop riders and Indigo Epic Riders will be rerouted onto Number 1 Road at the intersection of Highway to Hill and Number One Road away from the Indigo Epic - Purplexed trail. They will then bypass the Indigo Epic Purplexed trail and the Planned Burn area turning right onto Northern Firetrail then rejoining the Epic on Hurley Burley.
- Red Loop riders will continue on the Purplexed Trail past the intersection with Number 1 Road and stay on the Red Loop Track passing on the far side of the ridge from the planned burn. (Subject to approval by DEECA)
Trail and road closures during the planned burn
When the planned burn is taking place and for at least a fortnight afterwards (until the area is made safe), the following road sections around the burn area will be closed:
- Northern Fire Trail
- Nine Acre Track
- Stringer Ridge Track
- Part of No.1 Road.
The Indigo Epic Purplexed Trail will also be closed from the intersection of Highway to Hill and Number 1 Road.
Signage will be in place at the trail heads and nearer to the track closures.
Forest Fire Management Victoria will undertake a post burn assessment and treatment of hazardous trees and following this, the trail will be re-opened.
