Our Environmental Health Team is committed to protecting and promoting the public health and wellbeing of all communities within the municipality through the monitoring of all Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 premises.
These include businesses where hairdressing, beauty therapy, electrolysis and skin penetration procedures are carried out either on the premises or from a mobile operation.
We annually register all such businesses and inspect the facilities to ensure that they operate in accordance with guidelines produced by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
This is important as unsafe or unhygienic practices within commercial businesses can affect the health of clients, the health of the operator and can aid in the spread of infectious disease.
All new hairdressing, skin penetration, tattooing, beauty therapy, ear piercing and electrolysis businesses must register with us before beginning operation. This process involves submitting plans and specifications, completing a registration application form, and undergoing a final inspection before the new business can begin operating.
For more information, see our 'Doing business' section.
We also provide a free diabetic needle and syringe disposal service.
