Beechworth Historic Precinct

The Beechworth Historic Precinct (including the Old Beechworth Gaol) is part of Australia's National Heritage List. The precinct is a nationally significant collection of 19th century government buildings and one of Australia’s best preserved historic sites which Indigo Shire proudly manages on behalf of the community. Local residents can visit the Council-managed properties at any time for free.

National Heritage Listing

The Beechworth Historic Precinct (including the Old Beechworth Gaol) is part of Australia's National Heritage List.

Burke Museum

The award-winning Burke Museum is a central hub for Indigo’s cultural and historic legacy.

Historic Courthouse

For 131 years the heritage-listed Beechworth Courthouse was the scene of many trials and hearings.

Telegraph Station

Experience the historical importance of the volunteer-run Telegraph Station, a vital regional communications hub for Morse Code in the pre-internet era.

Town Hall

The 1859 Town Hall once served as a fire station, police station, courthouse, and public hall. Currently a Visitor Information Center, it offers daily tours and entry tickets.
