We are now in Caretaker Mode, otherwise known as the Election Period. During this period, from midday 17 September until 6pm on 26 October, there are certain restrictions on what we can and cannot publish. This is to ensure a fair election. In order to improve the health and wellbeing of the young people living, studying or working in Indigo Shire, we are committed to:
To achieve this, we have been offering a series of Youth Mental Health First Aid courses across the shire, for community members who work with young people.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid course will teach participants ‘how to assist adolescents who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical evidence-based action plan.’ (Mental health First Aid Australia).
Topics covered include depression, anxiety, suicide, eating disorders, psychosis and substance use disorder and an overarching plan for how to have a conversation with someone regarding mental health.
This training will run again in the second semester of 2024. Dates to be confirmed.
