How will you receive information?

Yellow background with blue text that says

It is the responsibility of each individual to be aware of the risks around them, and to access information in times of emergency. This includes when you are at home, when travelling and for areas where people you care for live (i.e. an elderly resident in another town).

This includes:

  • knowing what the fire danger rating is
  • if there is a total fire ban
  • if road access has been impacted
  • if weather warnings are in place
  • if relief centres are being opened

It is important to remember that in an emergency power, phone and internet service is likely to be impacted.

Every emergency kit should include a battery-operated radio with spare batteries.

Reliable sources of information in an emergency

It is important to always check your information with one of the sources above. There have been instances where the wrong information has been shared through social media, for example directing people to a relief centre with the wrong location - this can be extremely dangerous.

In addition, after an emergency has passed you can find relief and recovery information at

Each Council is required by law to have an appointed Municipal Recovery Manager (MRM) and it is their responsibility to provide information about the resources available to assist individuals to recover.

You can contact the Indigo Shire MRM on 03 5728 8079 or 1300 365 003, or via email at mrm@indigoshire.vic.gov.au
