Pet Registration

One of the responsibilities of pet ownership, is microchipping and registration. This means we can find you if your pet strays or gets lost. You also need to let us know if you move, you no longer own your pet, or if your pet passes away.

Register your pet

Step 1.Microchip

All dogs and cats must be microchipped and registered with council by the age of three months.

Step 2.Register your pet

Once your dog or cat is registered, they receive a lifetime Council identification number (tag number).

When your pet is not at its registered premises, it must wear a pet identification tag that is engraved with "Indigo Shire Council" along with the identification number provided. We suggest that this is on the reverse side of a standard tag with your pet's name and your phone number.

If you fail to register your dog or cat, or renew the registration, you could be liable for a fine in excess of $363.00.

Step 3.Renew your pet registration

After the initial registration, an annual invoice will be sent to your postal address or by email and must be renewed by 10 April each year. This date is set by the State Government's Domestic Animals Act 1994

To enable us to maintain current records, please advise of any status changes such as address, transfer or ownership or if your pet has passed.
