Beechworth Tennis Courts (completed 2022)

The new Beechworth Tennis Courts have now been completed, the car park area is open and the courts are ready for use.

The club will soon have a new on line Book-a-Court system in place to facilitate bookings

An official opening is expected to be held later in the year.

The new courts are coming along brilliantly with the cushioned acrylic surface now complete. Construction of the car park is now underway.

With construction of the new tennis courts now nearing completion, two representatives from Tennis Victoria were on site on Friday 18 February to inspect progress, together with the President of  Beechworth Tennis Club. After being closely involved in the planning for development of the new facility at Baarmutha Park, all were excited at the prospect of the courts being available soon for use.

One particularly exciting inclusion is the new Book-a-Court system. This is being installed to streamline the booking process for access to the courts for club members and visitors alike. The Book-a-Court system has been promoted and well supported by Tennis Victoria and it will continue to provide assistance to the local club in implementing it.

The LED lighting has now been erected and the cushioned acrylic surfacing is currently being laid. (Photo shows the rubber underlay being glued to the concrete base)

The concrete base for the courts was completed before Christmas and all fencing has now been finished. Works will begin in the first week of February to erect the lights and poles and complete the electrical connections. The laying of the cushioned acrylic surfacing for the four new courts will also proceed through February. This will be followed by the remaining civil works for the access road and car park, with a completion date extended to 31 March 2022.

Golf ball protection netting has been installed adjacent the first tee to protect car park users from any wayward golf balls. The type of netting chosen is also designed to be safe for birds.

Earthworks have progressed, with the new access road formed and the base foundation for the concrete slab for the tennis courts now being prepared.

Electrical conduits have also been installed in readiness for the new lighting. 

Update 26 November

The new tennis courts are beginning to take shape.

Foundation preparation has been completed and posts for the tennis court fence are being installed prior to laying of the concrete slab. The tennis court fence is being constructed with heavy duty posts to allow for the addition of windbreak screening mesh to the fence.

Site works commenced this week to prepare the site for construction of the new tennis Courts at Baarmutha Park. Security fencing has been erected around the site and the northern access road closed.

A detailed design has been finalised and a tender for construction has been advertised.

Tenders closed on 19 August 2021 and will be evaluated for Council’s consideration to award the contract.

At its meeting of 31 August 2021 Council awarded a contract for construction of  the Beechworth Tennis Courts to iDwala Pty Ltd for the price of $1,031,439.60

Site works are expected to begin in September for completion by January 2022.

The northern entry to Baarmutha Park will be closed to traffic for the duration of the works. All access to facilities at Baarmutha Park should be via the main entry gate opposite Victoria Road.
