The Wooragee Tennis Club required upgraded facilities to provide for increased participation rates, club competition and night tennis. The project was funded by a grant of $100,000 from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, $50,000 from Indigo Shire, $20,000 from Tennis Australia and $25,000 plus in-kind works from the Wooragee Tennis Club
The project has provided a safe and modern facility that supports our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our community.
A large crane was on site on Tuesday 8 December to remove the existing light towers at Wooragee Tennis courts, much to the delight of children arriving for school at the adjacent Wooragee Primary School.
This is in preparation for the commencement of works to upgrade the courts and lighting in early January 2021.
Site works resumed at Wooragee Tennis Courts on 12 January 2021 with an excavator removing the remaining fencing and commencing demolition of the existing concrete courts.
This area will now be re-graded to prepare the base for the new sand-filled artificial grass surface.
Works will then continue on the construction of a multi-use grassed area below the courts and rehabilitation of the area adjacent to Reedy Creek.
The bulk of the earthworks have now been completed.
Underground electrical cabling has been installed to supply the lighting, concrete footings have been poured and the new light poles erected.
The trees have also been pruned to accommodate the height of new fencing.
Works will now continue to prepare the base for the two new courts, erect the fencing and lay the sand filled artificial grass surfacing.
The sand filled artificial grass surfacing has now been laid and the chain mesh fencing is being constructed, so the project is nearing completion.
All site works were completed at the tennis courts prior to the Wooragee Community Celebration on 24 April. The whole community enjoyed the fantastic upgraded facility on the day. The two new courts have artificial grass surfacing with new nets, fencing and LED lighting.
The enhancement of this facility has given our community year round access to a compliant, safe and modern tennis venue.
