About this project
In partnership with Totally Renewable Yackandandah (TRY), Yackandandah Community Development Company (YCDCo) and Indigo Power, we supported the installation of a 50 kilowatt electric vehicle (EV) fast-charger at the public carpark at 16A Windham Street in Yackandandah.
The project was made possible following TRY's success in obtaining $44,582 in funding from the Destination Charging Across Victoria (DCAV) Grant Program provided by the Victorian Government through the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP). The DCAV program has provided grants to 32 applicants who will install approximately 141 EV fast-charging stations within approximately 116 high-use areas and tourist spots across Victoria by July 2023.
It was further supported by contributions from TRY, YCDCo, Indigo Power and Council.
Once the charger was installed, two parking bays for public EV charging were licensed by Council to YCDCo to manage the installation and contract Indigo Power for operation and maintenance.
This is the first publicly accessible EV fast-charger on Council land in Indigo Shire, and will be followed soon by another in Beechworth in partnership with Evie Networks, also supported through the DCAV program.
Why was this project undertaken?
This project aligned with our Council Plan Theme 4 Environment action: 4.2.3 Work with partners to help establish a network of community EV charging stations across the Shire and explore Council’s role in the provision of these facilities in the longer term as well as our guiding principle, we champion sustainable action
What happened and when?
Following installation in August 2022, the charger is now commissioned and operating.
