The Rutherglen and Yackandandah pools have a new coat of paint, in a brilliant aqua blue surface finish and the black markings for lanes and depths will also be redone.
Swimming clubs and school participation are consistently strong at both Rutherglen and Yackandandah pools. Training and lap swimmers have struggled for several years without the black lines on the bottom of these pools, which become a safety issue under heavy patronage.
In 2020 a dual motor robotic pool cleaner was purchased specifically for the Rutherglen pool. The smaller single motor pool cleaner used in all other Indigo Shire Council pool facilities is undersized and problematic for the larger Rutherglen pool.
Due to the deterioration of the existing pool surface the new equipment could not be used until the pool was repainted with a new durable material. In 2020, Yackandandah pool also underwent repairs to all the expansion joints and received a pool blanket in 2018. This project completed the enhancement to the Yackandandah facility.
Both pools have been emptied.
Works are timed to be completed before the beginning of the Indigo Shire swimming pool season to minimise the impact on the community.
Already there is some fantastic progress on the Yackandandah and Rutherglen Pool renewal works. The paint work has considerably brightened both pools. The black lines will be painted on 16 September. Stay tuned!
