Beechworth to Yackandandah Rail Trail

A woman and man on e-bikes ride towards the camera. Autumn leaves in red and yellow line the footpath underneath them.

An extension of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail, the Beechworth to Yackandandah Rail Trail is a 31km sealed trail meandering through spectacular scenery within Indigo Shire.

The trail is now open for all to enjoy.

A trail for all seasons

The Beechworth to Yackandandah Rail Trail is a must-ride cycling adventure, connecting two of the Victorian High Country's most picturesque gold rush towns and their year-round dining, shopping and activity offerings. The rail trail has a mostly downhill gradient from Beechworth to Yackandandah, well-maintained surfaces, e-bike and shuttle operators servicing the trail, and stunning natural landscapes that deliver a different view no matter when you visit. From magnificent red and gold leaves in autumn to green rolling hills and wildflowers in spring, the trail is made to be enjoyed in any season. The trail caters to all abilities, ages and tastes and is open year-round, meaning you can plan your trip to Indigo Shire whenever you like.

For an enjoyable day out, we recommend cycling from Beechworth to Yackandandah and organising a friend or a shuttle company to pick you up in Yackandandah. There are a number of bike hire, e-bike hire and bike shuttle companies within Beechworth and Victoria's High Country that can organise a return shuttle for you. The gradient to return from Yackandandah to Beechworth is steep, and we recommend this route for those with a moderate to high level of fitness.
